The Forest Way is a walkway, cycle track or horse path, depending on your preference, that runs from Groombridge in Kent through to East Grinstead in East Sussex. It is about 9.5 miles long and was a railway line which was cut due to the famous Beeching cuts, in 1966. The path is maintained and looked after by the East Sussex County Council.
The route of the Forest way runs along the River Medway, and goes through Groombridge, Withyham, Hartfield, Forest Row and East Grinstead. Many old railway reminders can be seen along the route such as the station houses at Withyham and Hartfield, along with remains of the platform and sidings. I used to live in a house built on the site of the station car park, and the signal box site was part of the garden!
